The Wasserstein bird feeder camera case came to my attention while researching bird feeder cameras. If you’re wondering which bird feeder camera to buy, you must include the Wasserstein on your list of viable choices. Without the in-depth research I’ve done on bird feeder cameras I may not have ever stumbled on this device, but so glad I did because it is my favorite so far!

In this article, I reveal what I learned while using the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case in my yard, share the actual video it captured, and the key factors to consider when purchasing one.

Why listen to me?

I installed, used, and tested the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Case (+ my Blink Outdoor camera) in my yard and observed its benefits and shortcomings.

I’ve been a backyard birder for more than 25 years. About 5 years ago I started using cameras to spy on birds in my yard as a way to refine my knowledge of their behaviors. Today, I have cameras scattered throughout my yard to enjoy them at the feeder, birdhouse, or wherever they happen to be.

What Is A Bird Feeder Camera Case?

In case you weren’t aware, a bird feeder camera case is an enclosed bird feeder that contains and protects the bird food and has a place to insert your camera. when the camera detects motion at the feeder, the video turns on and captures the activity. To be clear, bird feeder camera cases do NOT include a camera.

Why Bother with a Bird Feeder Camera

Bird feeder cameras have become popular lately, making it easier to discover birds in their natural habitats. You don’t need binoculars or a large telescope when you have one of these amazing devices.

Below are key benefits I’ve experienced from having a bird feeder camera:

  • I’m able to see which bird food a particular species prefers. I was on a mission to host more cardinals in my yard so wanted to see for myself whether they preferred the safflower seed, sunflower seed, peanuts, or black oil sunflower seed.
  • I’m able to observe their behaviors.
  • I’m able to find out the exact time the birds visit the feeder so I’m ready the next day to snapshots of them with my superzoom camera!
  • I’m able to see if the feeder needs filling or if snow needs to be brushed off.
  • I can see who’s pigging out on all the food!
  • I’m able to just experience the beauty of nature – up close!

Key Factors to Consider When Buying a Bird Feeder Camera Case

There really aren’t a lot of features or options available with a bird feeder camera case. In fact, there aren’t a lot of brands making them. Still, there are a few key factors to keep in mind when shopping for one.

  • Supports your preferred camera brand so you get the camera features you want and/or can easily add to your existing home security system with the same brand camera.
  • Weather-resistant so the rain, snow, and wind don’t destroy it or cause the food inside to become wet or moldy.
  • Easy to set up so you can start enjoying the birds quickly rather than studying the installation manual.

The Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case is the best bird feeder camera device for anyone wanting to record birds at the feeder and already has a Blink, Wyze, or Ring home security system (the camera is sold separately).

Supported cameras include:

  • Blink Outdoor
  • Ring Stick Up
  • Wyze Cam Outdoor
  • Wyze Cam v3

The case includes 3 different camera adapters depending on the brand of camera you have.

I tested and reviewed the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case with my Blink outdoor camera inside. It worked great to bring the birds up close to the camera. See for yourself …

And, the case is weather resistant enabling the food to stay dry and fresh.

Unfortunately, the storage case doesn’t hold very much food so I’m refilling it often.

The Wasserstein Bird Feeder camera case meets all the key factors I previously outlined. Here’s a summary:

Key Factor #1: Supports your preferred camera brand

I don’t know the brand of your security system but the Wasserstein is compatible with 3 major home security system brands including Blink, Wyze, and Ring. The 4 specific camera models it supports include:
1. Blink Outdoor
2. Ring Stick Up
3. Wyze Cam Outdoor
4. Wyze Cam v3

I have a Blink security system and used one of my outdoor cameras.

Key Factor #2: Weather-resistant

The enclosure is weather-resistant with its hard plastic enclosure protecting the bird seed inside. Although, any food that’s been dispensed will be exposed to the elements. The camera case area is also enclosed protecting the camera.

Key Factor #3: Easy Set up

The Wasserstein bird feeder camera case is easy to set up. Simply open the case, select the appropriate adapter for the camera brand you will be using, insert the adapter, insert the camera, fill with bird food, close the case, and mount it. (I’ll discuss mounting shortly).

This of course excludes the setup of your actual camera and app since they are not part of the Wasserstein.

Mounting

The Wasserstein offers 3 different mounting options:
1. Strapping it around a tree or post (strap & buckle are included)
2. Screw the mounting bracket to a tree or post (bracket included),
3. Mount it to a bird feeder pole. This method may require some creativity and/or additional hardware.

I decided to screw the feeder to a dead tree in my yard.

Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case Recommendation

I recommend the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera case if:

  1. You want to video the birds as closely as possible.
  2. You want to choose your own camera brand (either Blink, Wyze, or Ring).
  3. You already have a home security setup (Wasserstein is compatible with Blink, Wyze, and Ring) and want to simply add another camera to the system.

Don’t forget to choose your preferred Camera

On the other hand, the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case is not ideal for you if:

  • You want to video bird activity at any feeder. The Wasserstein only works with the Wasserstein feeder.
  • You want to easily place the feeder on their bird feeder pole system. While it’s not impossible to mount to a bird feeder pole, it does require some creativity and handiness.

The Wasserstein Bird Feeder Case vs Other Bird Feeder Camera Options

There are other options for recording birds at the feeder. The table below details those options and highlights the key difference between them and the Wasserstein.

• Wasserstein gets closer to the birds.

Conclusion

I set up and used the Wasserstein Bird Feeder Camera Case in my yard for a few months. Since I already have a Blink camera system I just added a new Blink outdoor camera and inserted the cam inside the Wasserstein case (The camera is sold separately).

The case is weather-resistant to keep the stored food clean and dry. And, the set up was easy-breezy. I love how close the camera was able to get to the birds.

It’s a great option for you if you want super up-close video and want to choose your own camera brand (among Blink, Wyze, and Ring).
